STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT 1

MARK STARRITT
Occupation: Builder, Commercial Pilot

Education & Qualifications:

Like many of you, I have dedicated my life to working hard and providing for my family, plus some toys. Working in the private sector, running multimillion dollar projects, maintaining budgets with full accountability while creating thousands of well-paying jobs. I have trained my entire life for this job and I’m ready to lead from day one serving you.

Our roads are a mess, crime is on the rise and the homeless have found a new home. Fortunately, all problems have solutions but without a sense of urgency our county will continue to flounder. We have proven we can provide housing for Silicon Valley, and it’s a great place to dump garbage. It is time to tap the brakes on housing development and concentrate on providing good paying jobs right here. Job creation will provide the prosperity we need. Face it folks, population growth is not going away, lets help keep our beloved commuters working right here.

The standard government solution is to raise your taxes. I will not do that.

San Benito County is a very special place to me and I would consider it an honor to serve as your County Supervisor. www.MarkStarritt.com

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT 1

SANDRA G. PATTERSON
Occupation: Former Law EnforcementAge: 64

Education & Qualifications:

A lifelong resident of SBC and a graduate of SBHS, I’ve raised my son here, attended church, and served my neighbors here. I entered the HPD Police Explorer program at 14 and served the community as a Police Cadet when I turned 18. I was the first female Deputy Sheriff Coroner in SBC; I ran the Explorer program and was the public relations voice to our schools.

While San Benito County is a great place to live, together we can make it better.

Our roads, especially access to Hollister, have not kept pace with our growth. Let’s improve our highways. Our drought has put significant strain on our farmers and ranchers. Let’s do better water management. SBC has tax rates comparable to large urban CA counties. Let’s control our taxes. The pandemic interrupted our children’s schooling. Let’s put our children’s education and well-being first again. Our first responders have served us well over the past two years, and before. Let’s compensate them accordingly and keep them in the county.

I would be honored to earn your vote. So your voice will be heard.

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT 1

KIM HAWK
Occupation: Retired County Employee

Education & Qualifications:

My name is Kim Sabbatini Hawk and I am running for San Benito County Board of Supervisors District 1. I was born and raised in San Benito County. My uncle, Frank Sabbatini, served on the Board of Supervisors for 24 years. My family still owns property in the north county area. I am married to my husband, Jeff, and we have one son, Matt. After 36+ years of working for San Benito County in various departments, I retired in 2011.

I have watched the county lose their leadership and decided I could make a difference. I worked in Public Works and saw firsthand how our roads should be maintained in the county and where some of the funding came from. Other issues of my concern are the John Smith Landfill, Safety, Health and Education. These are things that must be addressed with the Cities and the County to come to mutual agreements and what is best for the entire county.

I am not opposed to growth, but our infrastructure must keep up with the growth.

Thank you for your support and vote for Kim Hawk for Supervisor District 1.

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT 1

DOM ZANGER
Occupation: Estate Manager

Education & Qualifications:

I am running for county supervisor in district 1 because I see the changes taking place that are steering our county in the wrong direction. These changes are so significant that the charming and unique farm community that I grew up in has been transformed into something entirely unrecognizable. Residential hyper-development and its unsustainable consequences need to be brought to a halt.

My family planted their first orchards over 100 years ago in San Benito County. It is these deep roots from which my passion for the betterment of this county stems. At 26 years old, I feel compelled to get involved with the community and make a difference. I will not only bring a sense of revitalized zeal, but also the much needed perspective of young families in our community.

In addition, being part of a local family business has granted me a keen understanding of our small business owners as well as their patrons. These businesses are the backbone of our community and ought to be helped not hindered by our local government.

As county supervisor, I want to represent you the residents and make crucial decisions that directly benefit your lives.

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT 1

ELIZABETH ZEPEDA GONZALEZ
Occupation: Nonprofit Administrator

Education & Qualifications:

As a lifelong resident of San Benito County, I will be effective immediately, keep an open mind and listen to your concerns.

I believe in common sense government. I'll protect our County's values and rural quality of life. I am a fiscal conservative and will reduce bureaucracy and keep County budgets balanced. I am committed to expanding job opportunities in our local economy by reducing government fees and regulations and promoting reasonable growth that fits our rural character while ensuring that those that benefit from development pay their fair share.

San Benito County is at a crossroad with increased overpriced housing, decaying roads exasperated by heavy trucks from our landfill, and the lack of infrastructure to support its growth. The purposed landfill expansion will have an impact on all of us.

I will revitalize our economy by supporting infrastructure projects, tourism, agriculture, small businesses, and new revenue streams, replenishing our property rolls leading to good jobs and funding for needed services including local law enforcement, fire department and our veteran’s needs.

Housing is a fundamental part of life with affordable housing a major concern in San Benito County. It is critical that we bring affordable housing and make home ownership a reality.

BETSY DIRKS
Occupation: Appointed San Benito County SupervisorAge: 44

Education & Qualifications:

As the appointed Supervisor for District 1, I am committed to cultivating the aspects that make our county unique, while working to support families through increasing affordable housing, providing services to all residents, and improving the county’s infrastructure. I will continue to build bridges that bring people in our community together.

As a working mother, former teacher and community volunteer, I bring a unique perspective. We are at a turning point in our county, which calls for strong leadership focused on creative solutions to support economic development in our community, providing jobs and revenue.

My husband and I moved here 20 years ago and have expanded our family as the county has expanded. My desire is to have a county that will inspire my children to raise their own families here.

My experience as a sitting supervisor, a small business owner, educator, a member of the Civil Grand Jury for San Benito County, and as a volunteer with local nonprofit groups has given me the perspective to help move this county into a position where we will prosper. We are in this together.
