The purpose of this notice is to notify the public of the precautionary administrative action that the County Clerk/Recorder/Elections Department (CRE) will be taking effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Given the nature of the administrative actions and the need for further information, the plan and dates are likely to evolve, and we will update the public accordingly.
Administrative Action 1: CRE will close its over-the-counter services. Members of the public will have the option to take care of their business over the phone, online, mail or by office drop box.

This is not a decision we take lightly. We know that these precautionary actions have a tremendous impact on the public. The safety of the public and staff remains our top priority, and we have confidence that this is the proper course of action. For more information, call (831) 636-4029.

While the San Benito County Clerk-Auditor-Recorder-Elections department never wants to hear that our website may have been attacked, we are grateful that our Hollister Neighbors have brought to our attention, the possibility that it might have been.
We have spent a good part of the day working on the website – the issue appears to have been a few spam posts made using a flaw in a piece of software that we have since patched. The site is again functional after hours of work, making sure no malicious content was present. We have found no indication of any infected files hosted on the county’s site and believe the site was marked in error – regardless steps have been taken to ensure the site is safe, and we have requested that Google re-evaluate our site to remove the search warning.
Once again, thank you for your concern and for letting us know.
